Election season has clanked into drive and the air is thick with conspiracy. It's hard to keep up, but we'll give it a try.
First, a moment of silence in honor of actor Donald Sutherland, who died this month at the age of 88.
Mr. X dead at 88
Donald Sutherland played X in Oliver Stone’s 1991 film, JFK. Stone was criticized for playing Hollywood with the facts, as if the three-hour dramatization was a documentary of real-life New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison (played by Kevin Costner). One good example of dramatization was a scene in which a mysterious intelligence insider named only X meets Garrison in Washington, D.C. in kind of a Deep Throat session to voice the Big Picture behind Kennedy's assassination. X was, in fact, inspired by a real-life special operations chief U.S. Air Force Col. L. Fletcher Prouty. X tells Garrison only the CIA and the military had the ability to cover-up the truth of the assassination.
Prouty's 1973 book, The Secret Team, claimed to reveal a hidden history of how the military and intelligence community have worked at the behest of a “high cabal” of industrialists and bankers. Prouty died in June, 2001 at the age of 84…
