On June 30, Taraji P. Henson (“Empire” and “The Color Purple”) took some passionate political license as she emceed the 2024 BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards show in Los Angeles. “They are trying to bring the draft back. Who do you think they’re going to draft first? Our careers, our next generations to come,” Henson declared with a preacher's fire. “Did you know that it is now a crime to be homeless? Pay attention. It’s not a secret, look it up. The Project 2025 plan is not a game. Look it up!”
Suddenly, Project 2025 – a package of reel-in-Big Government proposals unveiled by the conservative Heritage Foundation more than a year ago – was a blazing wildfire headed for social media or a press outlet near you. True to President Biden's playbook, Democrats sounded the alarm that Project 2025 was Donald Trump's secret plan to crown himself king. “He’s trying to hide his connections to his allies’ extreme Project 2025 agenda,” Biden stated via press release on July 6. “The only problem? It was written for him, by those closest to him. Project 2025 should scare every single American.”
Trump, whose platform (“Agenda 47”) was rolled out in March, was quick to dismiss Project 2025. “I know nothing about Project 2025,” Trump posted on his social media website. “I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they’re saying and some of the things they’re saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them.”
